Get ready for a powerful week: September 19th/20th marks the New Moon and September 22nd marks the Autumn Equinox.
New Moons represent beginnings and give extra manifesting energy to where we want to go next. The Equinox is when day and night are of equal length, a moment of perfect balance when the perpetual energy of change is suspended and opposites are in accord. At the Equinox, a major breakthrough of cosmic energy occurs. The archetypal world is stimulated initiating a new alignment between our conscious and unconscious selves. Seeds of transformation are downloaded and a critical gestation period begins.
This week’s New Moon occurs in Virgo the sign of differentiation and the ability to analyze as well as the physical body. The spectrum of Virgo analysis ranges from discernment on the positive side to excessive criticism on the negative side. The shadow of Virgo can be the tendency to ignore the body and get stuck in the head. Virgo also symbolizes distillation, purity, and devotion to that which serves the higher good. This Virgo New Moon is about releasing the negative mental loops that hold us hostage to old patterns. It is also about renewing our commitment to a healthy mind-body connection.
During the Total Solar Eclipse this past August seeds of deep transformation were downloaded. The eclipse occurred in the sign of LEO (creativity, our heart, courage, power). The transition point between the sign of Leo (July 23-August 22) and the sign of Virgo (August 23-September 22) is symbolically inhabited by the Sphinx, an ancient guardian of knowledge who speaks in riddles. The mystery that life renews itself from what is hidden is the key to answering questions posed by the Sphinx. With the body of a lion (Leo) and the head of a virgin (Virgo), the Sphinx represents the journey of tempering the ego in the process of becoming aware of the collective in order to relate harmoniously (Libra).
The Virgo New Moon just before the Equinox is asking us to take care of ourselves and to look beyond ourselves to serve and share with others as we are all connected. The questions for the Sphinx, after the eclipse and as we move into the sign of Libra (balance and relationship) are: How do we live from our hearts and relate to others living from their hearts? How do we own our power and respect power in others? How do we speak truthfully and get our needs met while allowing the same for those we relate to? Who are we truly meant to be? How do we have the courage to become our best selves? Now is the season to meditate on these questions and to listen for answers as the energies of transformation are heightened this week. When the Sun enters Libra on the Fall Equinox, the collective mind will be stimulated and the capacity to dream anew the world, ourselves, and our relationships becomes possible.
