Big news! We’ve just added aromatherapy to our signature therapeutic treatment, Vibroacoustic Sound Therapy, in order to enhance your healing experience on a physical, emotional and spiritual level. Now each 30-minute and 60-minute Vibroacoustic session includes usage of Essence of Vali natural aromatic essential oil blends.
We sat down with Valerie Bennis, owner of Essence of Vali to talk about the benefits of aromatherapy, and the inclusion of oils in our Vibroacoustic sessions...
Q: Let’s start at the beginning, what is aromatherapy?
Valerie: There is lots of confusion about the word aromatherapy. Many people think that aromatherapy is simply aroma. But in actuality, synthetically scented candles or other synthetic scents do not really qualify as true aromatherapy. Aromatherapy refers to the therapeutic use of distilled essences that are extracted from different parts of a plant - root, seed, flower, leaf, bark and fruit. These essences are called essential oils. Essential oils have numerous properties due to their complex chemistry and combined with their aromatic nature affect us on a mental, emotional, spiritual and physical level.
Q: How are essential oils used?
Valerie: Essential oils can be applied dermally to penetrate the skin most commonly through bathing and massage with blends that target different conditions, such as muscular aches and pains. This occurs at different rates and intensities depending on the essential oils employed. Essential oils can also be used through inhalation, most commonly through the use of aromatherapy diffusers, mists and facial steam. Part of the beauty of essential oils is their versatility and the myriad of ways they can be used. For example, you can clean your home with lemon essential oil and make a beautiful skin oil with geranium, neroli and rose. In the world of aromatherapy, we most often create synergies, by combining essential oils for the aromatic appeal and therapeutic benefit.
Q: February was Stress Reduction month here at Tournesol as part of our Five Pillars of Health. How do essential oils help with the de-stressing process?
Valerie: Because essential oils directly influence the limbic center of the brain--which controls memory, heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, and hormone balance--essential oils can help to calm the central nervous system and have profound physiological and psychological effects on stress levels.
Essential oils also help alleviate stress by energetically connecting us to nature, the source of the oils. Nature has a strong beneficial energy that can help the body access its own innate healing power and regain balance. When we use essential oils--whether it is topically or through inhalation--we connect to the source...nature! In fact, there are many parallels between the healing properties and part from which the oil was extracted. For example, oils from trees and woods, such as cedarwood, can help you feel grounded and firmly planted; oils from citrus fruits, such as oranges that feed on the sun are uplifting for the spirit; oils from heart-shaped petals of flowers, such as rose oil, are healing to the heart.
Q: How will the use of aromatherapy will enhance Tournesol’s Vibroacoustic sessions?
Valerie: Fusing the senses of sound and smell together, creating synergy, it’s the ultimate healing experience! By utilizing both sound and scent, you’ll feel safe, relaxed and at ease during your session and beyond!
The two techniques really complement each other, since both the Vibroacoustic bed and aromatherapy are forms of vibrational modes of healing. Remember that everything is vibrating at a specific frequency--sounds and plants included. When we stress, have negative thoughts, or even eat processed foods, our cells start to move erratically, and vibrate at unhealthy frequencies. The resonant sound vibrations from the Vibroacoustic water bed and vibrations from the plant-based oils, work synergistically to get your cells back into a healthy frequency, and the body back into a state of harmonious balance!
