Our Favorite Pre-Sleep Rituals

  By The Tournesol Team

We all know how important sleep is, and yet 40% of Americans aren't getting enough of it. We regard a full-night's sleep as a luxury rather than a necessity, even though it is absolutely vital to our mental, emotional and physical health. No matter what your individual health concerns are, committing to getting more sleep is a great first step in your journey towards living your healthiest, happiest life yet.
Here at Tournesol, we're commited to supporting you on this journey, so we wanted to share some of our favorite pre-sleep rituals - the things we do to wind down, relax, and drift off at the end of each day. Give them a try and let us know what you think!

"I massage the soles of my feet with lavender oil before I get into bed, and then I read a book that has nothing to do with work! I also make sure to turn off all electronics at least an hour before I need to be in bed."
-Carey Davidson, Founder and CEO of Tournesol Wellness

"I focus on naturally increasing my body's melatonin by creating a relaxing environment and avoiding anything (like work and TV) that stimulates cortisol, the stress hormone that makes you hungry and competes with melatonin, the sleep hormone. I increase melatonin with a white noise machine, lavender essential oil and a snack like muesli, a couple of figs, or oatmeal - all contain tryptophan, which makes melatonin."
-Dr. Millie Lytle, ND, CNS, MPH is a Naturopathic Doctor, Certified Nutrition Specialist, and part of the Tournesol Primary Care team.

"I lay down with my craniosacral stillpoint inducer to calm and relax my nervous system.  After 15-20 minutes I sleep soundly for the rest of the night!"
-Heidi Gerber, MS, LAC, LMT practices Craniosacral Massage, Myofascial Release Therapy, Acupuncture, and her own healing technique, "Acussage."

"I always make sure to use lavender oil and meditate!"
-Peter Doyle LAc, MSOM is an accomplished herbalist and acupuncturist, and has been a dedicated practitioner of Chinese Medicine for over 16 years.
