What is Craniosacral Therapy (CST)?
Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, hands-on method of improving health and function. Craniosacral therapy uses very light touching of the skin to balance the craniosacral system in the body, which includes the bones, nerves, fluids, and connective tissues of the cranium and spinal area.
The craniosacral system is a semi-closed hydraulic system that maintains the physiological environment in which your brain and nervous system develop, live and function. Pressure changes within this system can contribute to dysfunction and ill health.
What is craniosacral therapy used for?
Craniosacral Therapy helps a myriad of health concerns. Based upon the name of the modality, it aids all issues between the cranium and sacrum. That includes any pains, discomforts and/or illnesses in the head, chest, diaphragm, low back, pelvis, hips and spine. By balancing the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) which runs through the dural tube of the craniosacral system, CST balances the autonomic nervous system, balances blood pressure, decreases stress, and relaxes acute and chronic musculoskeletal and connective tissue lesions.
Our clients have found great results for Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) dysfunction with instant relief. With 2 treatments, most patients feel long lasting effects. Hormonal disorders are addressed through CST, as well as irregular menses.
What should I expect in my craniosacral therapy session?
The client lies quietly, fully clothed, while the practitioner makes light contact at selected points around the head, torso, knees, and feet. This light contact consists of gentle finger pressure, with no bone manipulation or forceful thrusts such as those used in chiropractic work, bone-setting, or osteopathy. The goal of this therapy is to release compression in those areas which alleviates stress and pain.
Clients should expect to feel “releases”, a sense of letting go. Sensations include temperature changes (hot or cold), deep breathing, slight shaking, visions of color according to the 7 chakras, overall relaxation. Please remember to wear comfortable, loose clothing.
